Tea Staining & Corrosion of Drains & Electrical Pits
When used properly, stainless steel enjoys a strong and enduring reputation for visual appeal and structural integrity in a wide range of applications and environments. Like all materials, stainless steel can tea stain and corrode if not maintained.
Situation:
ICS was recently approached by a contractor who was requested to clean and restore approximately 1 kilometre of ACO 316 grade stainless steel Heelsafe® drain that demonstrated tea staining and corrosion at a Perth train station.
Traditional methods would have involved chemicals and time-consuming mechanical cleaning methods. Instead, the grates were uninstalled, transported to ICS where we quickly and simply treated them in compliance with ASTM A380 and A967 and return them to the contractor for re-installation.
The Treatment:
- Removed all tea staining and corrosion.
- Reformed the chromium layer that gives stainless steel its corrosion resistant properties.
- Allows the grates to perform at their optimum best for longer.
- Restored the look of the stainless steel.
The outcome was nothing short of excellent!
In summary it was a SIMPLER – FASTER – COST EFFECTIVE & ECO FRIENDLY
