Experience from their successful implementation of a robotic cleaning hub in North and Western Europe has made Oldendorff look for new regions in which to replace conventional cleaning with the safer and more environmentally friendly alternative, starting with New Orleans with its 2500 annual bulk carrier port calls.
With robots and a dedicated cleaning team, Oldendorff will service their own vessels in the Mississippi Delta.
Robotic cleaning includes no chemicals and can be done while the vessel is discharging, thereby saving time which is extremely valuable in the busiest dry cargo hub in the world where vessels are queueing up to load commodities for the world’s largest industries such as foods and energy.
Dexter Jeremiah, Managing Director Operations at Oldendorff says:
“Our cargo hold cleaning team in Hamburg has cleaned more than 50 vessels in the last two years using the Cargo Hold Robot. We have experienced increased grain standard approval rates and faster turnaround, and we are confident that this concept can bring the same results and value in other major shipping hubs”
